QUALITY ENHANCEMENT CELL

QEC office in Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari Karachi, Sindh established in January 2013, under the umbrella of Higher Education Commision, Pakistan. Its responsibility is ensure Qulity and Standard of teaching in various courss and teaching staff Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari Karachi, Sindh Pakistan. The issue of quality has been identified as the major issue confronting the higher education sector in the Medium Term Development Framework (MTDF). Therefore, to enhance the quality of output and efficiency of the higher education learning systems, a mechanism of establishment of QECs has been developed by the Quality Assurance Committee to improve the standards of quality of higher education in a systematic way with uniformity across country. In 2006-07 the Quality Enhancement Cells (QECs) have been established at ten public sector universities, where as in 2007-08 twenty more QECs were established in the public sector universities for improvement of their academic, teaching and learning standards. The QEC family is being extended to another fifteen public sector, fifteen private sector universities in 2009-10 and twenty four in public sector universities in 2010-11. BACKGROUND In recent years it has become an obligation that institutions of higher education demonstrate the effectiveness of their academic programs in providing high quality education that positively impacts the stakeholders. this has led the Higher Education Commission to develop methods for assessing the quality of academic programs. With the establishment of Quality Assurance Agency at Higher Education Commission it was decided in the NQAC meeting that Quality Enhancement Cells will be established at all universities to strengthen the internal quality assurance process with a special focus on quality of higher education to fill the gap between the prevailing and the desired status of quality education.

HEC Needs Based Scholarships 2016-2017 for Undergraduate Students

Around 90 (lump sum) HEC Needs Based Scholarships 2016-2017 are announced for BBSU, Lyari, students. Those who have achieved 2.5 CGPA till their Fall-2017 result are eligible to apply. Out of 90 scholarships, 55 are for the new aspirants while remaining 35 are for the old recipients. Merit-based Zakat Scholarship

Around 100 Merit-based Zakat scholarships worth Rs.6500/- per annum are available for all BBSU, LYARI students. Those who think they can receive ZAKAT and have achieved at least 2.0 CGPA till Spring-2017 result are eligible to apply. The selected candidates will receive this scholarship for remaining duration of their studies subject to their academic performance and conduct.
A three member scrutiny committee comprised off Dr Gulnaz Naeem, Mr A Shakoor Baloch and Dr Zaffar Shaikh (Director QEC) will interview students on Thursday, August 10, 2017 to prove their candidacy. Last date to apply (filling out of below given form) is Monday, August 7, 2017

NEED-CUM-MERIT BASED SCHOLARSHIPS 2017-2018
FOR ZAKAT MUSTAHIQ STUDENTS OF BBSUL

The Auqaf, Religious Affairs, Zakat & Ushr Department, Government of Sindh has decided to grant educational stipends/scholarships to Zakat mustahiq students of public sector universities. The amount of funds to be released is linked to the total number of enrolled students in a particular university. It is expected that there will be more than 100 NEED-CUM-MERIT BASED SCHOLARSHIPS each year. The scholarship award will cover a full/partial reimbursement of semester tuition fee and a monthly stipend of RS.3000/- (maximum) for the remaining duration of awardee’s studies at BBSUL (subject to fulfilling scholarship admittance and document scrutiny criteria).

The institutional/departmental scholarship committee (comprising of the Head of particular Department and the Focal Person) will decide/finalize scholarship awards. Thus, those students who think they can receive ZAKAT and have achieved/maintained a semester GPA of 2.0 or 50% marks in Intermediate (whichever is current) are eligible to apply.



Scholarship Application Forms can be collected from QEC office. The last date to apply for this scholarship is Friday, March 2, 2018.
